I'm Cathryn Robson and The Voice Centre is the 'hub' for all of my vocal practice.
I have been providing vocal coaching and advice to thousands of singers, actors, dance artists and business professionals since 2002.
Why do I work with people's voices?
I fell into vocal coaching unexpectedly, shortly after moving to the Mediterranean island of Cyprus many moons ago. I stayed on the island for nine years and during that time, my love of teaching grew into a vocation, first working with singers and eventually with actors and dance artists. It is fair to say that the voice, in all of its multi-faceted glory, obsessed me! I haven't looked back, but I did come back to the UK to do a Masters in voice pedagogy in 2010.
Over the years I have discovered that voices are a bit like snowflakes and fingerprints - unique and inimitable. Our voices hold everything that is essential, special and precious about us. There is little more wonderful than helping somebody discover this and to hear them take their 'vocal space'.
Be you a singer, actor, performer, business professional, or none of the above, your voice needs to be heard.
What are my qualifications?
Listening to and working with thousands of voices over several decades is probably my most substantial qualification! I also hold an MA Voice Studies from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, BA Hons Visual and Performing Arts, CT ABRSM (Singing) and Estill Levels 1 & 2, as well as oodles of specialist CPD. The learning never stops. If you want to dig deep my CV is here.
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK (FHEA). I also trained and certified as one the UK's first Fitzmaurice Voicework® Associate Teachers in 2014, a body-centred approach to accessing voice.
Lecturing
Currently I have the privilege of working with the next generation of voice and singing teachers as Course Leader on the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama's MA/ MFA Voice Studies: Teaching and Coaching. I am also Senior Singing Lecturer on the University of Westminster's BMus Production Performance Enterprise, working with a great vocal team and helping a wide range of commercial vocal artists find their sound.
